Day one – Arrival in Zagreb – Osijek
Arrival to Zagreb airport. Your tour guide will welcome you at Zagreb airport and help you to the bus for transport to Osijek. After arrival hotel check-in follows. Free time to relax or explore Osijek at your own leisure. Overnight.
Day two – Osijek – Ilok – Iločki podrumi – Vukovar – Osijek (B)
Breakfast in the hotel. Start your day with an oriental walk around Osijek and then start your full-day excursion to Ilok and a visit to Ilok Wine Cellars and a guided walking tour around Vukovar. Near the center of the historic town of Ilok, on the landscaped hill offering stunning views of Ilok, Srijem and Backa, lies the Principovac Castle and Estate that was built in 1864th as the summer residence of the Odescalchi family – The Dukes of Ilok, who stayed here during hunting seasons and grape harvestings. Whether you are a true wine connoisseur or you’re just on your way to becoming one, when you taste the royal Traminer and Graševina from Principovac in different styles you’ll realize that wine is here much more than a profession – it is a lifestyle. After a wine tour in the Ilok wine cellars we are taking you for a tour of Vukovar. Take a tour through the beautiful Baroque city of Vukovar, situated at the banks of the rivers Vuka and Danube in the Srijem/Syrmia region in Eastern Croatia. A private guided city walking tour brings you far back into the turbulent history of the proud City of Vukovar. You will hear and see how its citizens survived a three-month siege in 1991 during the Croatian War for Independence and try to understand the causes and consequences of this great national tragedy. Return to Osijek in the evening. Overnight.
Day three – Kopački Rit – Ethno village Karanac – Zagreb (B, L)
Breakfast in the hotel. Kopački Rit is a floodplain created by the force of water flooding and receding in the broader area of the mouth of the river Drava flowing into the Danube, fine-formed through mutual interaction of the environment and the flora and fauna that inhabit it. It is situated in the northeast of Croatia, in the lowland part of Baranja region. The Nature Park encompasses a total of 231 km2, including a 71 km2 Special Zoological Reserve. We will take you on a boat ride around the park and after the tour we will visit Ethno selo Karanac. The ethno village Karanac represents some old, past times when each house had its own story passed on slowly from generation to generation, keeping originality and life style far from busyness and crowd of city life. It is situated just a few kilometers from Osijek, below the hill Banovo brdo. You will visit the Ivica and Marica restaurant where you can taste a lot of specialities prepared according to the old people’s recipes along with the sound of tamburitza and Romani music, will make your visit an unforgettable experience. After lunch continue to Zagreb. Hotel check-in. Overnight.
Day four – Zagreb – Private guided city walking tour with a visit to the Museum of Broken Relationship (B)
Breakfast in the hotel. Start your fourth day with a guided city walking tour of Croatia’s capital city – Zagreb – with a visit to the so called museum of broken relationships. Get an introduction to the rich history of the Croatian capital, dating back to medieval times, on a 2.5-hour guided walk. Your local guide will take you from the main square, Ban Jelacic, to the cathedral, which is one of the most important landmarks in the city. Hear about the origins of the Cathedral of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the difficulties it has sustained, and its renovation. Your route takes you to vibrant Tkalciceva Street, better known as the bar street, where there’s always a steady stream of people. Hear about the philosophy of lounging and other everyday habits of the locals. A short stroll away is the charming funicular. This is the oldest form of public transportation in the city and has brought joy to the citizens of Zagreb for over 125 years. Hop on and take a ride to Gradec, the upper town. Gradec is one of the 2 medieval settlements that formed Zagreb. Take a walk along the charming Strossmayer promenade, the best spot for panoramic views of Zagreb rooftops. See the Lotrscak Tower and Saint Mark’s Church. The church with its picturesque rooftop appear on the postcard that is most frequently sent from Zagreb. Explore the side streets, discover their charm, and perhaps even enter one of the old courtyards. Descend to the oldest pharmacy in Zagreb, dating from the 14th century. Walk through the stone gate as you leave the upper town. The gate was a part of the defense system for the old city and is the only gate that has survived. Inside there is a small chapel housing the miraculous picture depicting Our Lady, the patron saint of Zagreb. The tour will finish with a visit to the famous Museum of Broken Relationships. The museum is a physical and virtual public space created with the sole purpose of treasuring and sharing your heartbreak stories and symbolic possessions. It is a museum about you, about us, about the ways we love and lose. At its core, the Museum is an ever-growing collection of items, each a memento of a relationship past, accompanied by a personal, yet anonymous story of its contributor. Unlike ‘destructive’ self-help instructions for recovery from grief and loss, the Museum offers the chance to overcome an emotional collapse through creativity – by contributing to its universal collection.
Day five – Zagreb – Trakošćan Castle – Krapina – Vuglec Breg (B, L)
Breakfast in the hotel. After breakfast, we are taking you north of Zagreb in Zagorje area. You will visit the Castle Trakošćan and get familiar with it’s cultural heritage. The castle is protected as a historical entity, which consists of the castle, the building next to the castle, park and forest park with a lake. Today the castle is one of the few facilities in Croatia with preserved its own constitution, historically closely related to the its owners’ architectural framework and lifeter a visit to the castle we will stop in Krapina where in 1899 were found the largest number of Neanderthal fossil bones in Europe, some nine hundred human remains from about eighty individuals, as well as bones of various animals dating back 125 000 BC. Experts from all over the world have conducted research on the collection and their interpretation of the Krapina findings influenced different scientific theories about human development, the genesis of our civilisation and about how human communities in Europe lived during the Pleistocene period. Next to the archaeological site is the Krapina Neanderthal Museum which today in an interactive way presents the origin of life on Earth and the evolution of humankind. After the visit to Krapina and the museum, we will finish this day with a dinner at Vuglec Breg, a very famous local restaurant. Almost every restaurant and klet (little houses in Zagorje) are located in gorgeous places, and Vuglec Breg is definitely one of them. Situated on a small hill covered by vineyards, the restaurant offers both soothing and thrilling view, no matter the season. Apart from the restaurant, the Vuglec Breg (breg means hill) charming wooden houses where you can spend the night. Perfect place for Sunday lunches, family celebrations, romantic dinners and business lunches. The menu is based on specialties from Hrvatsko Zagorje, with few variations. In the evening return to Zagreb. Overnight.
Day six – Zagreb – Plitvice – Poreč (B,L)
Breakfast in the hotel. Check out from the hotel. Start your travel to Plitvice lakes. Visit Croatia’s oldest National Park. Arrive at the UNESCO World Heritage Site to take a nature walk through the magnificent woodlands of Gornja Jezera (Upper Lakes). Marvel at a system of 12 lakes separated by travertine barriers and take a closer look at the marble formations of the incredible natural phenomenon. Learn how the lakes, karst rivers and streams are an ongoing process that continue to shape the landscape over time. See some of the magnificent waterfalls and stand in front of the 78-meter high Large Waterfall (Veliki slap) to hear the roaring thunder of the water as it hits the ground. After Plitvice, we are taking you for a lunch in the area and then to Poreč for your first night on the coast. Hotel check-in. Overnight.
Day seven – Poreč – Motovun Truffle hunting and tasting – Poreč evening walking tour (B, L)
Breakfast in the hotel. Experience the true demonstration of Truffle hunting in the magical Motovun forest in the heart of Istria, the natural habitat of truffles. Truffle hunting demonstrations take place in a village located about a kilometer from Zigante restaurant where you will later join a truffle lunch. All truffle hunting demonstrations are with dogs and in cooperation with a famous truffle hunting family, which has been in the truffle hunting business for years. The demonstrations take place in the woods and the participants should be aware of those in advance. Doing so will ensure that all guests arrive equipped with adequate footwear and clothes (we recommend boots and long trousers), as well as other necessary items, such as mosquito repellents. In case of severe weather conditions, the demonstration will be postponed. After the Truffle hunting demonstrations, we will have a 3-course menu which may include Istrian pasta with fresh black truffle, Boškarin (Istrian cattle) cheeks with fresh black truffle and Truffle ice cream. After the tasty lunch, you will travel from Livade to Motovun for a walk. Motovun is full of small shops where you can taste local products like olive oil, wine, and the most famous from the area – truffle products. In the evening return to Poreč, and meet a local guide for a private walking city tour. Numerous entries and literature call Poreč the city of mosaics due to its culture arising from the Euphrasian Basilica, which value has been recognized by UNESCO as a world heritage site. However, mosaic tiles of this beautiful city do not only consist of the Basilica’s historic heritage but alsO of the entire city centre with its regular geometric street layout, the 13th century Romanesque house, the Baroque interior of the Istrian Assembly Hall etc. After the walking tour free time to relax and enjoy Poreč at your own leisure.
Day eight – Poreč – Zadar – Šibenik (B)
Breakfast in the hotel. Hotel check-out. Start your travel to Šibenik with a stopover for refreshment and an oriental walk in Zadar. In the evening continue to Šibenik for a hotel check in. After the hotel check in we will end the day with a private guided walking city tour of Šibenik. Overnight.
Day nine – Olive Oil Museum and lunch at Mount Klis – Split – Šibenik (B,L)
Breakfast in the hotel. Hotel check out. Start your way to Olive oil museum Stella Croatica where you will enjoy the tasting of olive oil and products and afterward enjoy a locally prepared lunch with a view. Take a tour of the (manu)factory where our sweets are handmade, walk through the scenic botanical collection, explore the rich Mediterranean garden, visit the olive oil museum and traditional family estate. Awaken all your senses by tasting different varieties of homemade delicacies and our award-winning olive oils in an authentic atmosphere of the concept store. Taste a wide array of fresh cheeses, cured meat products and olive tapenades, great local wines or daily cooked authentic meals in our tavern – all made from fresh, organic and local ingredients! Evening walking city tour of Split follows. The private guided tour of Split with a local guide follows. Split is the second largest city in Croatia and the capital of Dalmatia, world known for its 1700 years old Diocletian palace, the best-preserved monument of late antiquity in the whole world. Diocletian Palace and the entire historical core of Split have been on the World Heritage UNESCO list ever since 1979, and not only for the extraordinary preservation of the Palace but also because the Palace and its city (or the city and its Palace, if you like) continue to live a full life. All historical layers from old Rome and the middle ages to today are still visible and alive in this structure. Return to Šibenik in the evening. Overnight.
Day ten – Šibenik – Split airport – departure
